THE RULES OF THE GAME
Remember, there is now a guaranteed monthly winner in each network, and it
could be you!
The winning outlet in your network will be the store that sells the most rolls and
booklets as a percentage of overall domestic general
postage stamps
.
A couple of general rules:
l
International and Philatelic stamp sales are excluded from the contest.
l
Philatelic rolls and booklets released during July are not to be transferred to
general postage until August.
l
Stamps must not be used in place of labels
l
Stamps must not be offered as an alternative to charge account
The referees and doping officials will be keeping a close eye on competitors and
any unsporting behaviour by any team not playing in the spirit of the competition
will receive a red card and disqualification from the event.
THE PRIZES
There will be 8 winning stores, one from each network. The winners will receive;

The perpetual Network Champions Trophy
l
A Gold Medal Presentation
l
$25 gift voucher for each retail staff member
l
2nd and 3rd placegetters in each network will receive an “Australia Post
Games” certificate.
THE TRIATHLON
All stores, regardless of their placing, will be awarded points that are carried
forward as part of the quarterly Triathlon competition.
The higher your ranking in the network, the better your chances of a place on
the podium after the first three events. Remember, best store in the state for
each triathlon wins the perpetual State Championship Cup plus a further $50 gift
voucher for each retail staff member.
PLAY OF THE DAY
Provide your Area Manager with details of a new sales incentive for this
Monthly Event and the best and/or most original suggestion will win a
family pass to the movies. There are 50 “Play of the Day” cards
enclosed in this pack.

LET THE GAMES BEGIN!
The first event on the Australia Post Games program is stamps and your
challenge is simply to sell more of them. And the easiest way to do that is
to sell them in rolls and booklets, rather than as singles.
To win the event, you’ll need to have the highest proportion of rolls and
booklets in your network when measured against your total stamp sales.
So, get the team together and start planning tactics. Remember, you’ll
need to have a solid game plan and have your whole team on side if
you’re going to win this event.
IDEAS TO GET YOU STARTED
1. Make sure every customer who comes to the counter, regardless of the
purpose of their visit, is offered a book of stamps.
2. Whenever a customer asks for a single stamp, offer them a booklet. Try
something like “certainly madam, but did you know they also come in a
handy booklet of 10? They easily fit into your wallet or purse and you’ll
always have stamps on hand when you need them”. Remember, offering
customers a larger pack size is not a “hard sell” tactic. You are simply
offering them a more convenient option that they may not be aware of. It’s
all part of providing a better service.
3. Most customers know about booklets, but many may not be aware that we
sell stamps in rolls. Make sure that anyone who regularly buys booklets of
stamps, particularly booklets of 20, is offered a roll of 100 or 200. They’re
most likely a small business customer and you’ll probably be doing them a
favour.
4. Why not ring your business customers who make regular purchases of
stamps and see if they need a few extra boxes? Develop a script that you
can use when calling, such as; “Hi, it’s Jenny from Australia Post here. I’m
just calling to see if you need any office stationery or stamps.....”
DEAL ME IN!
As an extra incentive for this event, you’ll be receiving two “stamp booklet
dispensers”. Load them up, place them on your side of the service counter and
see how much quicker and easier it is to sell stamp booklets! For instance, if
a customer asks for say 6 stamps, immediately “deal” them a booklet and ask
“how about a 10 pack for $5.50? Its always nice to have a few spare stamps.”
There are several post offices in NSW/ACT that have tried this for over a year
and they assure us that IT WORKS! Customers are literally presented with a
logical alternative option in seconds and the immediacy of a stamp booklet in
their hands seems to seal the deal. TRY IT!
